It wasn’t long ago that I was driving into my neighborhood on a bright Southern California afternoon. As I turned onto my street, I noticed a new mail carrier walking along the sidewalk. This person was clearly struggling with the large, heavy mailbag draped over their shoulder. The weight of the bag seemed to be a challenge, and I could see them adjusting the strap repeatedly, clearly uncomfortable.
I’ll admit, I immediately felt judgmental. My first thought was, “This person is not fit for the job.” My mind started listing all the reasons why I didn’t think they could handle the role of a mail carrier—thinking about the walking, the weight of the bag, the physical demands, and the clear lack of confidence in their movements as they double-checked addresses, almost as if it was their first day on the job. And honestly, I found myself thinking, “Great, now my mail will probably get messed up.”
But then, almost immediately, the Lord stirred my heart and reminded me of a situation from just a few weeks earlier. A church member had scheduled an appointment with me and, after a few polite pleasantries, began listing all the reasons why I was “not fit for my role.” They criticized several things about my ability to be a senior pastor—because I was a woman, because they thought I didn’t have enough experience, and because they doubted I could carry the weight of the calling. They had their own mental list of why I didn’t measure up.
In that moment, as I judged the mail carrier, God gently shifted my perspective. Of course, that person could do the job. The United States Postal Service trusted them enough to give them the position. I imagine when they first applied, doubt and uncertainty filled their mind, but they pressed through. They didn’t let fear or discomfort stop them from taking the next step.
And that’s when God spoke to my heart: You are anointed, appointed, and called by Me—regardless of what others think or say.
God sees beyond our imperfections, limitations, and doubts, and He saw potential in you, even when others doubted. God also equips those He calls. The struggle of the new mail carrier isn't so different from the struggle anyone might face when stepping into a new ministry challenge or role. It's uncomfortable at first. It's heavy. It's awkward. But God doesn't make mistakes in His appointments.
I want to remind you of this today woman of God: You are chosen. You are anointed, appointed, and handpicked by God to lead—to deliver the mail.
You may not feel like you fit the mold, but remember what Philippians 1:6 says: “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (NIV).
The enemy will try to discourage you, telling you to quit, to give up, to be overwhelmed, or to leave. But I am here today to speak faith over you. You are not alone in this journey. God has placed this calling on your life, and He will see it through to completion.
I’m here to encourage you to stand firm, to press on, and to trust that what God has started in you, He will finish. You are called. You are capable. You are equipped.
Now….let’s go deliver the gospel!
